COOPERATIVE
CAMPAIGN
While Westwood's Yuri's Revenge was possibly the greatest expansion pack for a Command & Conquer game ever released, the lack of a campaign for Yuri's side, the third faction in Red Alert 2, was something that left many fans disappointed and hoping for more. Mental Omega, the unofficial expansion for Yuri's Revenge, was originally created in part to fill this void - to finally tell the story from Yuri's perspective. Ever since its release in 2006, Mental Omega has remained the only Yuri's Revenge fan project that introduced a complete Yuri's campaign. With Mental Omega 3.3, extensive brand new campaigns for the Allies, the Soviets, the Epsilon and even the mod's original faction Foehn Revolt have been developed. The campaign of Mental Omega 3.3 currently consists of over 100 missions, making it possibly the largest Command & Conquer megacampaign ever created, second only to the combined mission pack of the recently released Command & Conquer: Remastered Collection. It is divided into two major parts: Act One and Act Two, each telling a different story. Act One is a new take on the events of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2, depicting the second war between the Allies and the Soviets, internal conflicts within alliances and Yuri's rise to power. Act Two features an entirely new follow-up story of Yuri's revenge. The new 4th side, the Foehn Revolt, has a new set of its own missions, explaining their origins and place in this story. The entirety of Act One has been available since the release of Mental Omega 3.0 in 2013, with each mission immediately available for the player. This fact is mostly due to the challenging difficulty of the campaign, but also because we want to give the players the ability to choose any mission they want from the get-go. More missions will be released once they are completed, through patches for the mod. As of version 3.3.5, all of the previously released missions have been heavily revamped and adjusted for difficulty, especially on the Casual setting, to make them more accessible to the players. Additional missions, labelled as Special Operations, are side stories to the main plot of Mental Omega. See the complete list of Act One & Act Two missions in Mental Omega 3.3 below. Video playthroughs on Mental can be seen by clicking on a mission's name. In addition to the main story mode, Mental Omega 3.3 also includes a selection of new cooperative missions. Despite the popular opinion that Red Alert 3 introduced them to the series, cooperative missions in Command & Conquer have been available ever since Red Alert 2, although the game did not fully utilize the potential this mode had to offer and the maps in it were mostly skirmishes with several presets. There are 36 heavily scripted maps in a co-op campaign available for online play in the mod: 6 for the Allies, the Soviets and Yuri's Epsilon each. These missions have been exclusively designed for 2-player gameplay and loosely tie into the main story, usually in a supplementary way with a very short briefing. Unlike Mental Omega 3.0, in version 3.3 you will not have to worry about choosing the proper settings for a cooperative mission to launch correctly. All of those settings will be automatically enforced by the new client created by Rampastring of the Dawn of the Tiberium Age modification. Do give it a try too! |
